Cockroaches are often considered useless animals. But not so apparently in the minds of scientists at Oregonn State University (OSU), the United States. They admire the way cockroaches run and plans to implement on the robot.
"Man can run, but our capabilities are not nothing compared to insects or other animals," said John Schmitt, a professor in the OSU School of Mechanical Engineering who led the cockroach robot project.
If the robot cockroaches runner style made this a success, Schmitt believes any point will vary. Robots will do the heavy duty operations such as for military, law enforcement, or space exploration.
Researchers at OSU trying to identify the mechanical and biological principles why certain animals can run very well and almost without effort. Through computer models, they created the concept of robot-like.
It is hoped one day, cockroach-inspired robot is going to materialize for hazardous areas visited. And because of his running so fast, they can get the hell out if it gets threats.
